JUBILEES 2012

January  5th 2012, Sister Cath Lloyd celebrates 15 years since her final profession. The name of her group is 'Passion for life', and their motto is from the Song of Songs' Set me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is strong as death'.

January 6th Sisters Marion Charley, Anne McCarthy and Elizabeth Smith celebrate 40 years since their final profession. The name of the group is :  'Mission', and their  motto is 'Learn of me that I am gentle and humble of heart'

Sister Marion Charley writes:

The name given to my group at our Profession in 1972 was “La Mision”, and our motto was “Learn of me that I am gentle and humble of heart.”

The name was very significant since the Society had recently gone through enormous changes as a result of Vatican 2, when we were re-defined as Apostolic Religious and began to live “in the world” instead of a quasi-monastic life with enclosure.   So to be called “La Mision”( those who are “sent”) invited us all to look outwards; to live in small communities, and to become engaged in a variety of educational  apostolates where we were living.   There was a strong emphasis on work for justice and with those who are poor.   When I entered I never expected these momentous developments, but found that I was able to adapt and able to see that a life “in the world” was totally compatible with the Society’s charism.   Less than two years after Probation I went to live and work in a poor area in Venezuela, and discovered there that our Probation name was at the heart of all we were engaged in.   This also applies to all the succeeding communities  and apostolic contexts  in which I have lived and worked.

I was delighted with the motto “Learn of me that I am gentle and humble of heart” as it sums up our spirituality of discovering and making known the love of God revealed in the Heart of Jesus.   The motto is about a very personal relationship with Jesus, and a life of on-going discovery of His heart, which inspires me to try and share that love with others.
