We held two vocations weekends in 2010. In July on probably the hottest weekend of the year! seven women joined us at Barat House, Roehampton, SW London; then in October, during a mild, beautifully colourful autumn, three women came to our house in Oxford. In all, the ten women ranged in age from mid-20s to 50+, they originated from Australia, Hungary, Mauritius and Nigeria as well as the UK, and they included students, an optician, a nurse and others working in different areas of education and caring. Some came seriously considering religious life, others were less certain and seeking clarity or direction. All responded to the invitation to Journey into the depths of God and the heart of our world
The weekends were built around sessions in which we presented, reflected on and discussed the essential components on which our lives are founded: our spirituality and contemplative core; internationality; educational mission; community and the vows. There was plenty of time for prayer and reflection, individually and as a group, and opportunities to ask all sorts of questions, both during discussions and over meals or cups of coffee. This was something that participants said they especially appreciated. There was also time for walks, chats and general relaxation. The team for each weekend consisted of three RSCJ Barbara, Lorraine and Silvana. During the first weekend we discovered the need for a fourth member a dedicated cook and so Margaret, who lives at Barat and had stepped in to help out, came to Oxford and spoilt us with homemade cakes and delicious casseroles. Weve made sure shell be there for the weekends weve planned for 2011! Wed be delighted if you can be there too; if unable to come, please do pray for us, and the women discerning with us, and help us advertise these events |
